Job Description:The design of high voltage (HV) devices, such as gas circuit breakers (CB) and gas insulated switchgear (GIS), requires - among others -simulations and experiments for verification of insulation and switching performance. Additionally, the research activities in the area of gas circuit breakers are enhanced by various computer-aided-engineering tools. We are looking for an intern student with expertise in computational chemistry to contribute to the development of novel insulating materials for high-voltage power grid applications. The superior goal is the achievement of high-end quality of the product. The duration of the internship is 6 to 12 months.
Your responsibilities:- Working in a project for pre-product development
- Modeling and simulation of gas insulation systems, gas-solid and gas-liquid interfaces utilizing molecular dynamics programs such as LAMMPS and calculation of reaction mechanisms with the help of other software packages such as Gaussian
- Study the relationship between microstructure and material characteristics and document findings and present test results to the team
Your background:- Currently pursuing a M.Sc. degree in Material Science, Chemistry or similar discipline, with a certain focus on computer-aided methods
- Experience with the use of typical computational chemistry software such as VMD, LAMMPS, Gaussian, or similar
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Team player and well organized
- Creative and able to work autonomously
- Laboratory and experimental experience area is of advantage
